Aria’s 4 Month Update

OK so I know this is late, considering that Aria turned 6 months yesterday… but it is still accurate and informative on what to expect in your baby’s fourth month.

At four months of age all babies will go through a permanent change in how they sleep, aka the dreaded 4 month sleep regression! (dun dun dunnn) Their sleep cycles will change into what an adults sleep cycle pattern looks like, to keep things simple deep sleep and light sleep vs just deep sleep all day long, how they tend to do during the newborn months (1-3).

It would seem that babies who sleep better before the fourth month tend to go through a harsher sleep regression, but its more likely the fact that you’re either rested and suddenly not resting or you just aren’t rested and are accustomed to it… so a bad night vs a horrible night or a good night vs. a bad night LOL! I hope that makes sense.

That being said, most babies do go through a very blatant change at four months where they cut down from an eat play sleep, eat play sleep, schedule to sleeping three naps a day… Usually a 60-90 minute nap in the morning, a longer stretch in the afternoon about 2 to 3 hours, and a cat nap in the evening anywhere from 30-60 minutes.

Well into the four months is when Aria started sleeping the three nap schedule every single day, which I have also adjusted so that her longer nap will coordinate with Alessandro’s one nap of the day… She would sleep longer in the morning, but its better for us all if I can line up their naps.

Aria’s Schedule at 4 months looks something like this:

Wake Up and Nurse: 7:00 am

Morning Nap: 9:00 – 10:00 am

Nurse: 10:30/11:00 am

Afternoon Nap: 12:00 – 2:00 pm (This is the same as Alessandro’s nap)

Wake Up and Nurse: 2:00 pm

Late Afternoon Nap: 4:00 – 5:00 pm

Wake Up & Nurse: 5:00pm

Bedtime: 7:30/8:00 pm

Dream Feed: 10:30/11:00 pm

MOTN Nursing Sessions: 2:00 am (during the 4 month sleep regression) & 4:30 am
